All Shook Up – Casting Notice
CASTING NOTICE for the roles of SYLVIA, LORRAINE and MALE ENSEMBLE

In the original Broadway production of All Shook Up, the roles of Sylvia and her daughter Lorraine are written as African American women. Like members of marginalised groups around the world, African Americans have their own unique experiences and stories to tell.  To authentically and respectfully represent these stories, Babirra Music Theatre is specifically seeking performers who identify as members of the African Diaspora community for the roles of Sylvia and Lorraine.

SYLVIA – The no-nonsense, African American owner of SYLVIA’S HONKY-TONK.  Huge range.
LORRAINE – Sylvia’s teenage daughter.  Pretty, smart and a total romantic.  Alto.

We are also seeking male identifying performers, from all backgrounds, to join our dynamic ensemble.
Members of the ENSEMBLE must be strong dancers and vocalists, and will play an assortment of TOWNSPEOPLE.

Babirra rehearses in Canterbury, Victoria with rehearsals scheduled to begin in early February 2023.

About ALL SHOOK UP

Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, All Shook Up is built around some of the songs made famous by Elvis Presley. It takes place in 1955, somewhere in a square little town in a square little state….in the middle of a square decade, somewhere in America. Where one girl’s dream and a surprise visit from a mysterious leather-jacketed, guitar-playing, motorcycle-riding stud help a small town to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock and roll. This hip-swivelling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender, Don’t Be Cruel, Can’t Help Falling in Love, and of course the title tune.
